What a terrific Christmas Gift! I remember when these came out. 1966. My best friend bought one. The company ran neat ads in the magazines such as Life, Look and Esquire. At that time they were the smallest 35mm camera. The lens on a Rollei 35 extends and retracts. It will not take photos unless it is extended, and it will not retract unless the camera is cocked and you press a top button. Everything is smooth, you never force the lens. The light meters are usually dead. But this one works, and I think the readings are correct. But these like a 1.35 volt Mercury battery. They are not available, but may sometimes be found. The workaround is to get an MR9 adapter or use a Zinc-Air cell. Of course, you can use an external meter or your smartphone to measure the light. These are manual cameras. You select the film's ISO/ASA, then for each photo, you set the exposure time and the lens opening. Their photo quality was excellent. This has a CARL ZEISS Tessar Lens, 40mm f3.5. That's a big deal! The camera was made in Germany. In later years, due to high local costs, the production of Rollei's was moved to Singapore. So, the owner of this did what we were told to do back then. He scratched his name and Aspen Post Box onto the top metal. It is hard to see, but he was a famous guy. He built the Cloud 9 on Aspen Highlands, then the Paragon in town. Later he owned a winery in Grand Junction and then a restaurant on 12th St. His obit says he traveled to Nepal, and that he was involved with the Washington San Juan Islands. ( Me too ) ( He was Frank Bering, Jr. ) I set this with low cost $5 shipping. I have found the manual, and I will print some of the online manual, then tell you where to get it. Me:I got into film back in 1956. I retired from finance work in '89, and a while back I decided to collect cameras, and that led to selling them. I have good feedback for you to read. I give ongoing support, you will have my card and phone.
